see-AV is owned by company director Peter Varey, who has more than 15 years' experience working in the audio visual industry. It is the sister company of PV Audio Visual (PVAV), who specialise in audio visual design and installation in commercial properties such as hotels, museums, nightclubs, and health and leisure clubs.
PVAV's reputation on the commercial side meant they were often asked to install custom-designed systems in people's private homes, even though it wasn't the main focus of their business. Demand grew so much that Peter decided to make it official. The result was see-AV, a business specialising in custom-made automated solutions for the home, including home cinema, multi-room entertainment, automated curtains and blinds, bespoke lighting and CCTV and security.
"Our experience of working within the commercial sector has been really beneficial to us in the private sector. We can turn around jobs very quickly without compromising on customer service, and I make sure our installers know that when they have left the house, apart from what they've installed, there has to be no trace that they were ever there," says Peter. He adds that it's important to work closely with the customer to discover exactly what end result they want.
"People who want the best technology rarely care how the technology works. They simply want to know that the end result is what they are looking for, so we make sure we find the best equipment available within a budget the customer is happy with, without bamboozling them with all the techno-jargon that goes with it."
Peter he has gained an encyclopaedic knowledge of the industry, and from their base in York, he and his team have built up a nationwide network of trusted suppliers, designers, installers and engineers. "We only use people we would trust to work on our own houses," says Peter, "And having been involved in the industry for so long, we've built up solid working relationships with them. These are people we get along with and who we know will do a great job."
